To the Honorable John Suthers:
I urge you to prohibit your traffic engineer, Kathleen Krager, from constricting Cascade Avenue down to one traffic lane for the following reasons:
- This waste of our tax dollars will not guarantee safety — not for students, skateboarders, cyclists, or drivers. Kathleen Krager as much as said it’s still possible that a CC student will get killed even with one lane of traffic going through CC.
- The Old North End Neighborhood (ONEN) board Master Plan calls for traffic to be spread out among all of the arterials going through the ONEN. Traffic from a constricted Cascade will flow into an already congested Nevada. We don’t agree with Ms. Krager that “traffic congestion is good.”
- Bicyclists have numerous and better options for riding between the ONEN and downtown than constricting Cascade.
This city’s scarce tax dollars should be used to improve the flow of our traffic rather than impede it. It is my fervent hope that you are a mayor who listens to his constituents. Please prohibit your traffic engineer from fouling up Cascade.
